TOMMY BOX OFFICE NOW OPEN!

DR JEKYLL MAKES WAY FOR PINBALL WIZARD

As you may know 2009 will mark the Griffin Players 75th Anniversary and we a currently planning an ambitious forward programme to help commemorate this prestigious event. Although it was a difficult decision, we have decided to postpone our  musical Jekyll & Hyde for 12 months as we feel this superb show would be a magnificent centrepiece to our celebrations.

In its place this year  we will be staging The Who's ground-breaking rock opera TOMMY from 18 -21 June at The Library Theatre Luton. Directed by Richard Haxell with musical direction by Simon Tabert and choreography by Jenna Ryder-Oliver - this exciting show contains many memorable numbers including: Sensation, Acid Queen, Feel Me See Me, I'm Free but the most famous is undoubtedly Pinball Wizard.

Wildly regarded as one of the best rock operas ever written, Tommy began life as a concept album released in 1969. Since then there has been the acclaimed film version directed by Ken Russell and in 1993 the piece was rewritten as a Broadway Musical winning 5 Tony wards that year, including Best Original Score for Pete Townshend.

LIBRARY THEATRE AIR-CONDITIONING

The Griffin Players presented The Witches of Eastwick last week and once again our audiences had to endure sweltering conditions inside the Library Theatre, Luton.
The existing air conditioning system is noisy and inadequate and can only be switched on for short periods so as not to interfere with the performance.
The Theatre management have been trying in vain to get the system improved/replaced. But the powers that be at Luton Borough Council have other priorities. There the Griffin Players have started an online petition which we help will help the theatre management to persuade the council to act. We already have over 100 signatories but need more.
If you love the theatre but hate watching shows in sauna-like conditions please sign our petition. To do so please sign on the bar below. Thank you for your support
