DR
JEKYLL MAKES WAY FOR PINBALL WIZARD
As you may know 2009 will mark the Griffin Players 75th
Anniversary and we a currently planning an ambitious forward programme to
help commemorate this prestigious event. Although it was a difficult
decision, we have decided to postpone our musical Jekyll & Hyde for 12
months as we feel this superb show would be a magnificent centrepiece to our
celebrations.
In its place this year we will be staging The Who's
ground-breaking rock opera TOMMY from 18 -21 June at The Library Theatre
Luton. Directed by Richard Haxell with musical direction by Simon Tabert and
choreography by Jenna Ryder-Oliver - this exciting show contains many
memorable numbers including: Sensation, Acid Queen, Feel Me See Me, I'm
Free but the most famous is undoubtedly Pinball Wizard.
Wildly regarded as one of the best rock operas ever written,
Tommy began life as a concept album released in 1969. Since then there has
been the acclaimed film version directed by Ken Russell and in 1993 the
piece was rewritten as a Broadway Musical winning 5 Tony wards that year,
including Best Original Score for Pete Townshend.
